Executive Summary
The AES Foundation was established in 2010 to secure donations and support from the Australian community.
A critical issue facing our society is the poor representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the workforce. This is even more evident in high-level occupations and in our rural and regional communities.
The AES is committed to ensuring that every Indigenous Australian has the opportunity to change their life and that of their family and community through a sustainable career path and to provide them with the necessary skills and aspirations .
Indigenous Career Coaching
Our research shows that Aboriginal people are unsure about the opportunities available to them and as a result do not actively seek out career progression. Over 40% of our Indigenous population is aged below 25 years and we recognise the importance of career coaching intervention during the formative school years and for those who have recently left school. The AES Foundation is implementing a significant new initiative to address the workforce imbalance by partnering with experts in this field to launch a career coaching program in 2012.
Workplace Giving
Workplace giving is a simple and effective way of donating to the AES. Employees are able to make direct pre-tax donations to the AES on a regular basis. Why not make a difference and give a young Indigenous Australian a real opportunity by notifying your payroll officer of the specific amount you want to donate each pay day. Remember, the AES receives the full donated amount and it doesn't cost you that much.
“Through doing the traineeship I’ve realised how much of a difference one opportunity can make in your life” - Josh completed his School Based Traineeship in Tamworth.
